It is essential to encompass the changes in a context when its variables are modified. One cannot keep the same choreography when the music has changed. While obvious, this is not always acknowledged by the participants in such process. Role recreation in the workplace involves new focuses and practices.
In the context of recreating roles the coach represents the external observer. Their study focuses on distinguishing the possibilities the person is blind to, given their function and position in the company’s culture.
If we think of the different roles in the workplace, it is necessary to revise their traditional descriptions. This is a task that can, for the most part, be handled by Human Resources. Their knowledge and compromise regarding the set rules is important, as long as they do not become a counterproductive factor. However, in the end they are also part of such culture and share the cognitive blindness derived from it.
It is for these reasons this task becomes enhanced by the intervention of an outside coach, whose function is to listen to the existing structure and propose new ways of seeing and executing.
Let us examine any position within the company. We will ask that employee to describe their role and they will give us a list of their duties. In view of the required tasks they will plan their job management and will seek to develop the required skills to fulfill such job.
This will also determine their professional development within the company. Here lies the importance of describing the job function with as much openness as possible to determine new perspectives.
We should rethink all aspects that can enhance the potential of Human Resources, allowing every employee to recreate his/her role based on experience and what they consider adds value to their work.
